About Parent Visas to Australia

What are the different subclasses under the parent visa category?
There
are several subclasses under the Parent visa category. These are
based on your age and your ability to contribute to your
future health and welfare costs.
Parents under the Australian
pension age – currently 65 years of age for men and
62 years of age for women – must apply for a Parent
visa outside Australia.
Parents over
the pension age are eligible to apply in Australia
for the ‘Aged Parent’ visa subclass.

Contributory Parent Visa |
|
Parents and Aged
Parents who are willing to contribute upfront to their health
costs may apply for the Contributory Parent visa.
Applicants for this visa will pay a health charge of
AU$26,475 per adult to apply directly for a permanent visa.
There is also an option to pay the health charge in two instalments:
you can pay AU$15,885 upfront for a two year temporary visa, and then pay
the remaining AU$10,590 at any point during the following two
years in order to become a permanent resident.
All applicants are required to have a sponsor, or another
eligible person, to lodge a financial bond
of AU$10,000 (AU$4,000 for other adult dependants) to help
cover the cost of any social security payments made during
their first 10 years in Australia.

Existing Parent Visa |
|
Parents or Aged
Parents who wish to be processed under the existing
parent visa subclasses will pay a lower health charge of AU$1,050
per adult and require a smaller financial bond of AU$3,500
(AU$1,500 for other adult dependants) to cover any social
security payments made during their first two years in Australia.
The existing parent visa subclasses have lower charges,
but as there are only 1,000 places available each year,
the queue for a visa will be much longer.
