
A Town Like Victor harbour
Situated 80km south of Adelaide, Victor Harbour overlooks Encounter Bay, named after the encounter of French seafarer Baudin and Matthew Flinders, in 1802. Just above Rosetta Harbor is The Bluff with a memorial of the encounter. From 1837 a whaling station was set up on Rosetta Harbor, with another following shortly on Granite Island.
There are numerous historic buildings around Victor Harbour that you should visit, including the Fountain Inn, St. Augustine’s Church of England and the old Telegraph Station. Some 8,260 of Victor Harbour’s 10,563 people were born in Australia, with 1,830 overseas.
