Message From CEO
On the 16th of March, we alerted our clients advising them that Australian media had reported on changes to skilled migration. Predictably, international press also wrote similar stories that would have lead to a lot of confusion for prospective migrants.
To set the record straight, here is a quick summary of our response:
- Even if the Government reduces permanent skilled migration this financial year by 18,500 places, skilled migration intake will remain at record levels.
- The reduction does not affect your eligibility to apply, but may extend processing times. This means that the sooner your application is lodged, the better.
- Plumbers, metal workers, bricklayers and carpenters will no longer receive priority processing and may need to wait longer for their skilled migration application to be processed.
- Applicants sponsored by eligible family members or a state or territory government will still receive priority processing, regardless of occupation.
- Most importantly, skilled migrants in these occupations are still eligible to apply for skilled migration to Australia.
We will keep you informed as details of the proposed changes comes to light.
Immigration Minister, Senator Chris Evans, also commented that the overwhelming message from business and industry is that Australia still needs to maintain a skilled migration program and plays a crucial role in stimulating the economy.
I look forward to meeting with Senator Evans soon to discuss several issues, many of which have been raised by you, our valued clients. We are making progress and will keep you updated.
Once again, we recommend all clients to start the process today to avoid any delays in getting your visa application processed. We would love to partner with you on your journey to Australia.
