As one of the latest editions to the LIA team, what motivated you to apply for the role?
As I had prior knowledge of the company, I kept a watch on it’s progress and was always very keen to see it succeed. An opportunity to join it at a time where it was looking to grow rapidly and to be an integral part of that growth was and is hugely appealing. LIVE IN australia.com has a great vision and it exists for an amazing purpose. And the outcome of that vision and purpose is that we help people live in the best country in the world – so how could I not want to be a part of that?
You’re from Chile originally. Why did your parents decide to move to Australia?
They wanted to give my brothers, myself and themselves a better quality of life. Life in Chile is fantastic, it’s a beautiful country and the people are a very happy breed, very social and generous. But when it comes to the economic aspects that we appreciate in Australia such as employment opportunities, good salaries, work conditions, good work life balance and high standards of living and quality of life, there was and probably still exists, great room for improvement. My parents sacrificed much to come to Australia, and in return, Australia has given all of us a great deal more in return.

If you had to pick someone who you really admire and idolise, who would it be and why?
I am always conscious of the word “idolise” and as there are so many amazing people I choose aspects from various. Some favourites are Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, or amazing Aussies like Peter Garrett, Cate Blanchett or Steve Irwin. But who I admire the most are children. I admire their self expression, enthusiasm for life, their thirst for knowledge, their resilience and their drive to squeeze the most out of every day by getting up early and going to bed as late as possible.
You love keeping fit and team sports. What’s your most memorable achievement?
My most memorable sporting achievement would have to be catching my first wave. There is nothing quite like the feeling of surfing, it’s amazing and exhilarating. Funny though, I was so excited I can’t remember how I did it or what I did, in fact I had my eyes shut for part of it, but I was pumped.
What do you love most about Australia?
What unites us and sets us apart from the world - the Aussie spirit. And although the term has broad meaning and it’s not something you can Google, you really get it when you live in Australia. From that point you become an Aussie, you call Australia home and wouldn’t trade it in for anything. Secondly it’s footy, surfing, meat pies, vegemite, Tim Tams, Sunny Boys, Big M’s, Kangaroos, Emus, Platypi, Kookaburras, Wombats, the beaches, Uluru, Kakadu, The Great Barrier Reef, Jennifer Hawkins and Elle McPherson (add Hugh Grant for the ladies), the hills hoist and the esky.
