Bairnsdale is on the Prince’s Highway 285 kilometres, or approximately three hours drive, east of Victorian capital Melbourne.

It’s also an entry point to the Wilderness region of East Gippsland.
A regional service centre with excellent education, quality recreational facilities and health services, a wide range farming enterprises surrounds Bairnsdale. Servicing approx the same number of people who visit Bairnsdale from other townships in East Gippsland. Educational facilities in Bairnsdale include two high schools; Bairnsdale Secondary College with around 1200 students and Nagle College which has about 800 students. The district is well serviced with primary schools and kindergartens, and tertiary education facilities including the East Gippsland Institute of TAFE.
Bairnsdale is also the terminus of the Melbourne/Bairnsdale railway line.
