How far can a migrant go?
Andrew Symonds, cricketer

Andrew Symonds was born in June 1975 in Birmingham, England. At 187cm (73.6”) and 94kg (14.8 stone), Andrew cuts a dashing and powerful figure playing for Australian Test, One Day International and 20/20 cricket.

He also is an in-demand player for the new Indian 20/20 league. When he’s not playing internationally, Andrew (nickname Roy) can be seen playing for his State, Queensland, or the Gold Coast Club. If he isn’t playing cricket, you’ll probably find him out fishing.

No player in Australia generates the amount of excitement that Andrew Symonds does when he walks out to bat. He rocketed to cult hero status in the one-day form of the game, but 2007-08 was a watershed year as he built on the substantial progress made in late 2006-07 to virtually doubled his Test batting average from 20-40.

Roy played his first Test on his home ground at the Gabba against Sri Lanka in November 2007 and caressed a stylish 53 not out off 61 balls in Australia's only innings. He chimed in with 1-10 and 1-21 with limited overs at the bowling crease. He followed that up with an unbeaten 50 off 71 balls in the second Test in Hobart. Symonds was fine for the Boxing Day Test against archrivals India and made a fluent 35, before exploding in Sydney. With Australia in trouble at 6-134, he pummeled 162 not out to help the side to 463.

Andrew ‘Roy’ Symonds will be remembered long after his glittering, if controversial, career finally reaches stumps.
