Sunshine, great jobs and plenty of good Aussie blokes

Research carried out by the Aussies indicates that single women in the UK are less than satisfied with the quality of their lives and the available menfolk.

The answer, they say, is to move Down Under for good jobs, cheap property, warm weather, low crime and a high ratio of single and "sporty" young suitors.

Bill Muirhead, South Australia’s Agent General in London, said: "We can offer UK migrants a quality lifestyle, strong career prospects, beautiful beaches, world-class wine and fine weather.

"Our research shows that many single British women are actively looking for love but not finding it.

"So we asked our men, who are bronzed, sportier, and who are enjoying a booming economy, to step up to the plate and entice British women to a better way of life."

Mr. Muirhead said that 50.4 per cent of the male population in South Australia is single, compared to 34.7 per cent here, and has 300 days of sunshine a year. He and his colleagues said that a survey carried out among single British women under 45 showed most regard getting through the long, cold lonely winters as the worst thing about being single.

They are reaching out to young British women, in particular doctors, health professionals, accountants, planners and chefs, who they hope will emigrate for a "better life".

Information meetings have been held following a "speed dating" format, in which British women can meet "eligible men" including a winemaker, a chef, engineers, bankers, and surfers.

Mr. Muirhead said: "It will bring together confident British women with some of the best men South Australia has to offer."
