Chocolate crackles or Australian chocolate crackles are a popular children's snack in Australia, especially at birthday parties and at school fetes. The recipe is relatively easy requiring only copha (solidified coconut oil), icing sugar, cocoa, crispy rice cereal, coconut and the optional use of sultanas. It’s so easy, making chocolate crackles is often used as a fun craft activity for young children.
Ingredients
- 4 cups crispy rice cereal
- 1 cup vegetable shortening or margarine
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
- 3 Tablespoons cocoa
How to prepare
- Melt the shortening in a large saucepan over low heat.
- Add crispy rice cereal, confectioners' sugar, and cocoa to the saucepan.
- Spoon mixture into paper cupcake holders.
- Chill for 12 to 24 hours in the refrigerator.
- Makes 24 Chocolate Crackles.
