Aussie Surprise of the Month
Incat - world’s best ferries at the end of the earth

If you go past Tasmania, it’s ‘next stop Antarctica’! And yet, in the southernmost part of Australia’s Island State, they’re building big cat ferries to service the routes of the world. In fact, the United States military is getting on board to use these revolutionary craft for the fast, and flexible seaborne transport of personnel and equipment. For example, you might be surprised to learn:

  • Incat is the builder of the world’s benchmark in high-speed ships with fast Wave Piercing Catamarans in commercial and military service around the globe, carrying passengers, vehicles and freight.
  • Incat’s shipyard is on Prince of Wales Bay at Derwent Park near Hobart. The facility incorporates more than 70,000 m2 of undercover production halls, with two dry-dock areas capable of accommodating up to six vessels under construction.
  • Think fast - think light is the Incat philosophy: lightweight aluminium construction, streamlined hull shapes and constant attention to research and development has seen product developments produce a range of Wave Piercing Catamarans with dramatically increased payload as the size of the craft has grown over four decades of experience in the ferry and ship construction industry.

If you’re looking for a country that prizes and rewards skilled shipbuilding professionals, talk to an LIA advisor. It could be time for you to come aboard.
