Dear Guest,
I attended Emigrate 2007 in Surrey (United Kingdom),
which allowed us to interact with hundreds of UK people
looking to move abroad. We love any opportunity to mix
with prospective migrants and better understand their
needs.
The UK is always a wonderfully vibrant place, but I must
say after fighting the crowds, travelling on the tube and
breathing the air in central London, I could not wait to
return to Australia!
It was a great opportunity to spend time catching up
with our terrific London team, who are passionate about
assisting clients, and conducted in-person consultations
with UK clients. Based on the response, we will offer
similar opportunities to clients from other countries in
future, so stay tuned!
Having travelled extensively, I have been given an
opportunity to experience beauty all over the world. At
the same time, I also never fail to realise why people
want to move to Australia- whether for its climate,
education system, healthcare, safety and freedom... there
are few places that equal this country for a world class
lifestyle and an opportunity to raise a family with
peace of mind on every front.
For this reason, it is my passion and privilege to make
the process of immigration and a new life in Australia
accessible for our clients from all over the world.
| Please enjoy our March edition of LIAISON, Guest!

Swapping teeth for really big trucks
Sue Gogilis, a 34-year-old mother of two, was a dental
assistant until last May. Now she drives a mammoth dump
truck at one of Rio Tinto's iron ore mines, hauling 230
tonnes of rock and dirt across the scorching Pilbara
region in Australia's outback.
"They need the bodies," she said. "And so if there's a
body, they don't care if it's male or female as long as
it can drive the truck."
To give you an idea of what extracted Sue from her
dental assistant's job, here is some pay information
from the Australian mining industry, as at May 2006:
$AU1729 - Average weekly full-time earnings for males
$AU1318 - Average weekly full-time earnings for females

Australia Day = Citizenship Day
Citizenship ceremonies take place all over Australia,
throughout the year. But a tradition is growing that
Australia Day - our national day - is a darn good day to
become a citizen.
On January 26th 2007, at special ceremonies around the
country, more than 12,500 people from 111 countries
signed up as Australian citizens. Greg Kelly, South
Australian State Director of the Department of
Immigration and Citizenship, conducted one ceremony for
35 new Australian citizens between innings at an
Australia-England one-day cricket match. How Australian
is that!
South Australia's new citizens include 29-year-old Bo Soderberg from Denmark, who twice held the Danish beach
volleyball title and now aims to compete for Australia
at international tournaments.
So you can see, Guest, skilled immigrant visas into
Australia are not just an excellent way to finance your
future, they are often the key to a whole new way of
life.
New career. New horizons. New country. Your new life
awaits, Guest!

Aussie Surprise of the Month
People around the world know about Australian sporting
prowess, and nowadays Australia's high degree of success
in Hollywood. However, what surprises many (even
Aussies) is the number of cultural and scientific
success stories we've racked up over the years.
Number one in this series is the 'black box' flight
recorder, an essential item of primary safety equipment
found on every modern aircraft. In 1954, Aussie David
Warren conceived the idea of a protected recording of
the flight crew's conversation that would survive a
crash.
With support from his Superintendent, Mr. Tom Keeble,
and an Instrument Engineer, Mr. T. Mirfield, a unit was
designed and built, using steel wire as the recording
medium. It was fully automatic for fit-and-forget
operation with a "memory" mechanism that stored four
hours of pilot voice and instrument readings, at the
rate of eight per second up to the moment of an
accident. The original demonstration unit is now
displayed in the Science Museum, Melbourne.

British GPs say 'aaaaaaaaaah!'
A DVD entitled "Rural Australia needs you" is now being
delivered to thousands of British GPs, to help address a
chronic shortage of GPs in Australia's country zones.
As 30,000 British junior doctors are competing for just
22,000 NHS posts, it could be a win/win situation for
rural Australians and those excess doctors.
The DVD tells the stories of five British doctors who
have already made the move.
One Muswellbrook (NSW) country practice has 16 doctors,
of whom just six are Australian born. The others come
from as far afield as Norway, Sri Lanka, Pakistan,
Indonesia, Zimbabwe and China. "If you took out the
overseas doctors," said practice senior partner Dr
Rogers, "Our doctors would have to be on-call every
other night."
Four years ago, Dr Steve Sylvester left behind his
general practice in the North East of England and took
up a position in Scone; a small community four hours
drive from Sydney. Originally, he signed up for five
years, and now expects to spend the rest of his life in
rural Australia.
"You use a wider range of your skills than in an
office-based practice in the UK," said Dr Sylvester.
Without an influx of doctors, some of the smallest
country practices could ultimately close. So, any doctor
wishing to establish a practice where he or she is
really needed and the work is diverse, satisfying and
rewarding, log in to your
Visa Management Centre and let LIVE
IN australia.com® help you achieve your dream.

Brisbane - sun, fun & lifestyle
The Australia TradeCoast precinct is a project that aims
to co-ordinate land use sequencing for the 8000ha parcel
of land at the mouth of the Brisbane River.
Deputy Premier, Anna Bligh, unveiled a plan detailing
how the project will deliver $6.2 billion worth of
infrastructure, marking out and preserving key corridors
for industrial use.
The big opportunity for skilled workers is the prospect
of 46,000 extra jobs, as building works are carried out
over the next two decades. It's a big challenge to fill
these positions and the Queensland State Government will
be relying on skilled workers to be recruited from
interstate and overseas.
General Manager, Wendy McMillan, said the Australia
TradeCoast plan was about ensuring the future
sustainability of the trade and industry precinct.
"With Australia TradeCoast's employment forecast to hit
10,000 by 2026 and its direct and indirect input to
Gross State Product expected to reach $16.3 billion by
2013-14, it is vital we plan for future infrastructure
needs to ensure the region continues to grow and
contribute to Queensland's economy," Ms McMillan said.

It's simple, Guest. Australia's problem is
your
opportunity. Right now, in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney
and in many country towns and cities around the nation,
there are job openings that may be crying out for your
skills, experience and qualifications.
So get your skates on, log into your
Visa Management Centre, and
stake your claim to the golden opportunities on offer,
down under, right now.

A Town like 'Shep'
Australians tend to shorten the names of most things,
including towns. For example, Brisbane is widely known
as Brizzie, Wangaratta becomes 'Wang'; Murchison is 'Murchie' and so on.
Thus, 'Shep' is actually Shepparton, a thriving city of
over 60,000 situated in the Goulburn Valley, about two
hours north of Melbourne.
This rich dairying, fruit growing and agricultural
region produces around 25 percent of Victoria's rural
output. Much of the produce of the region is exported,
resulting in a high level of income for Shepparton and
the surrounding districts.
Of course, it's not all work in the Goulburn Valley. Its
people enjoy a diversity of sporting and cultural
pursuits, on weekends and at the end of the working day.
If you go through the Shepparton phone book, you'll find
many family names with diverse European and Middle
Eastern origins. For example, in recent times, hundreds
of Iraqi immigrants have settled in and around Shep,
integrating into the community, while preserving many of
their cultural traditions.
Whatever their backgrounds, Sheppartonians claim theirs
is an idyllic, laid back lifestyle. If you are seeking a
town like Shep, to build a peaceful and prosperous life,
contact LIA and match your skills to the region's needs.
There's no better time than now.

Recipe: ANZAC biscuits
ANZAC stands for the World War One
Australia New Zealand
Army Corps. The army biscuit, also known as an ANZAC
Wafer or an ANZAC Tile, is essentially a very hard, long
shelf-life substitute for bread. Some soldiers preferred
to grind them up and use them as porridge. (Add water
and sugar, cook, and serve with generous dollop of jam.)
The following recipe is adapted from the original
provided by Mr. Bob Lawson, who took part in the
Gallipoli landings of April 25th, 1915.
This significant day is celebrated every year by all
Australians as a public holiday, to express gratitude to
those involved in all wars.
Ingredients
1 cup each of plain flour, sugar, rolled oats and
coconut
4 oz butter
1 tablespoon treacle (golden syrup)
2 tablespoons boiling water
1 teaspoon carbonate soda (add a little more water if
mixture is too dry)
Method
1. Grease biscuit tray and pre heat oven to 180◦C
2. Combine dry ingredients
3. Melt together butter and golden syrup. Combine water
and soda add to butter mixture
4. Mix butter mixture and dry ingredients
5. Drop teaspoons of mixture onto tray allowing room for
spreading
6. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden
Allow to cool on tray for a few minutes before
transferring to cooling racks

The ANZAC biscuit. A great Australian tradition!
