Irish migrant Damien Leith has demonstrated what a land of extraordinary opportunity Australia can be when he was last night voted the winner of national music talent show, Australian Idol.  While not yet an Australian citizen, Damien is part of the LIVE IN Australia.com family when he used the service to migrate to Australia in 2002.

A chemist and now father of one, Damien was stunned by the support he had received from Australian audiences.

“Definitely the night of my life.  It has been absolutely incredible.  I am humbled to have had this to have happened to me,” said Damien after the win.  “I have found the last 10 to 15 minutes hard to take in…very emotional.”

Damien and his wife Eileen live in the inner Sydney suburb of Newtown, and the talented 30 year old dedicated his wife to her and their 14 month old son, Jarvis.

“Eileen and Jarvis have been there all the way through this and it’s hard, this journey.  She is a rock of strength.  I owe all this to her,” he said.

The newly crowned Idol winner acknowledged the support of his adopted nation.

“The Australian community has really gotten behind me and that has shone through so strong,” said Damien.  “I am so humbled by that ... this is my dream, I can't believe it.”

The Australian Idol crown has secured Damien a recording contract with Sony BMG.  His first single, Night Of My Life is available instore and via digital download.  Leith’s album is due out by March next year.
